Lisa Snowdon (born Lisa Snawdon on January 23, 1972) is an English actress, supermodel, television presenter and singer.

She was signed with a British agency Premier Model Management. For a few years she was signed to click click model management. She has recently been titled "the British Tyra Banks" because of her years of experience in the modeling industry. Snowdon has worked with some of the most respected photographers in the world including David Bailey, Nick Knight, Kim Knott, Clive Arrowsmith, Nigel Barker and Andre Rau. Snowdon has graced the covers of and done fashion spreads for some of the most high profile fashion publications in the world e.g Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Elle. Snowdon has been in FHM'S most beautiful women countdown every year. She has been the face of Neutrogena and attracted major attention when she had a relationship with George Clooney. She is the supermodel judge on livingtv's hit show Britain's Next Top Model.

Gia Marie Carangi

Gia Marie Carangi (January 29, 1960 – November 18, 1986) was an American fashion model during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Carangi, who was of Italian, Welsh and Irish ancestry, was considered by some to be the first supermodel, although that title has also been given to others including Janice Dickinson and Dorian Leigh. Cindy Crawford, who also appeared on the covers of several fashion publications during her time, was later referred to as "Baby Gia", due to her resemblance to Carangi. Carangi was also the first to present unusual poses, facial expressions and gestures. She is credited by many at the upper echelons of fashion to have created a new style of modeling, emulated by models since then to the present.

Carangi was featured on the cover of many fashion magazines, including Vogue, April 1, 1979; Vogue Paris, April 1979; American Vogue, August 1980; Vogue Paris, August 1980; Italian Vogue, January 1981; and several issues of Cosmopolitan between 1979 and 1982.

After becoming addicted to heroin, Carangi's modeling career rapidly declined. She later became infected with HIV and died at the age of 26. Her death was not widely publicized and few people in the fashion industry knew of it. Carangi is thought to be one of the first famous women to die of AIDS.

Twiggy was born in the London suburb of Neasden, the daughter of Nellie Lydia "Helen" a counter-girl at a Woolworth's store and factory worker at a printing firm, and William Norman Hornby, a master carpenter and joiner She attended the Brondesbury and Kilburn High School in Salusbury Road, Kilburn.

In 1966, Nigel Davies noticed the young Lesley Hornby and offered her a modelling contract. She was only 16 and weighed 6½ stone (41 kg, 90 lbs). Davies advised her to go by her childhood nickname, Twiggy, and renamed himself Justin de Villeneuve. After sweeping England as "The Face of '66" when her modelling pictures, taken by Barry Lategan, were made public, Twiggy arrived in New York in March 1967. It was believed that the Twiggy craze would die down within a month; Twiggy, however, became an instant icon and supermodel. Known for the high fashion mod look created by Mary Quant, Twiggy changed the world of fashion with her short-haired androgynous look. Her style has dominated the runways for forty years. She was also famous for drawing long, fake eyelashes under her bottom lashes. These are, unsurprisingly, named Twiggys.

Twiggy was regarded as one of the faces of 1960s Swinging London, along with other models, such as Celia Hammond.

On 16 June, 1967, Capitol Records released Twiggy's first single for the label "When I Think Of You" with "Over And Over" on the B-side.

In early 1968, Twiggy toured Japan and filmed advertisements for Toyota Motors and Choco Flakes breakfast cereal. In 1969 she did advertising work in the United States for Diet Pepsi Cola.

A model is a person who poses or displays for purposes of art, fashion, or other products and advertising.

Modeling is distinguished from other types of public performance, such as an acting, dancing or mime artistry, although the boundary is not well defined. Appearing in a movie or a play is generally not considered to be modeling, regardless of the nature of the role. However, models generally have to express emotion in their photographs, and many models have also described themselves as actors.

Types of models include glamour, fashion, fitness, bikini, fine-art, and body-part models. Not all models are beautiful: character models portray ordinary people and humorous types, mostly in print work and in commercials.

Supermodels

Supermodels are highly paid, top fashion models. These (usually female) celebrities appear on top fashion magazine covers, in catalogues and in fashion shows.

The first model to pave the way for what would become the supermodel was Lisa Fonssagrives. The relationship between her image on over 200 Vogue covers and her name recognition led to the future importance of Vogue in shaping future supermodels. Fonssagrives at the height of her career could be both sophisticated and yet a kook, with which every American woman could identify. Her image appeared on the cover of every fashion magazine during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s from Town & Country, Life and Vogue to the original Vanity Fair. Model Janice Dickinson, however, asserts that she was the person for which the term was coined. as she popped the term herself while talking to her agent at the climax of her career: "I'm not superman, I'm a supermodel".
